GRDF has published its first “Sustainability Report—A First Step Toward Climate Action.”
The company is taking action to mitigate climate change and adapt to its effects
GRDF has released its first Sustainability Report, titled “A First Step Toward Climate Action,” to enhance the transparency of its non-financial information and share its sustainability roadmap with all of its stakeholders.
This voluntary initiative*, focused on climate issues, demonstrates the company’s commitment to sharing its strategy, results, and the challenges it faces, drawing inspiration from the European standards of the Corporate Social Responsibility Directive (CSRD).
This first report highlights two complementary aspects of GRDF’s climate action: climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Mitigating Climate Change: Decarbonization at the Heart of GRDF’s Strategy
The corporate initiative “Decarbonization Mission”, launched in 2024, is at the heart of GRDF’s approach. Serving as a true strategic roadmap, it mobilizes all business units and regions around concrete objectives to accelerate the Energy Transition and contribute to the Decarbonization of regions.
This ambition rests primarily on three pillars: developing Green Gas, reducing the Carbon Footprint of GRDF’s operations, and supporting its customers and partners on their own Decarbonization journeys.
Adapting to Climate Change: Grid Resilience for the Benefit of Local Communities
As the operator of strategic infrastructure in France, GRDF has a major responsibility, enshrined in its ESG policy: to ensure the safe distribution of gas despite the impacts of climate change, in order to be as well-prepared as possible for the resulting climate risks.
To anticipate the consequences of climate change and its effects,
The results confirm the network’s high level of resilience, primarily due to its underground nature, while also identifying several areas for improvement to prepare for the future (such as managing interdependencies with other operators, including electricity and telecommunications networks).
What's next? An initiative set to gain momentum
More than just a reporting exercise, this report illustrates the transformation GRDF has undertaken to support the Energy Transition, strengthen regional resilience, and prepare its infrastructure for the climate challenges of the future.
This publication also represents a first step in a process of transparency and continuous improvement.
* As an independent subsidiary of Engie, GRDF is not directly subject to European sustainability reporting requirements. Nevertheless, the company has chosen to draw inspiration from this approach by publishing this first Sustainability Report focused on climate issues
